About Azady Soap

Azady Soap is a handcrafted soap studio in Waxhaw, North Carolina, created for people who want their daily bar to feel more like skincare than just “getting clean.” Every batch is made in small quantities so you know exactly what is touching your skin.

How it all started

My clean-ingredient journey actually began with my pets. I wanted to keep our home clean without filling it with harsh, toxic cleaners, so I started making my own all-purpose spray cleaners. That simple shift—asking “what’s really in this?”—stayed with me.

Family and early soapmaking

Years later, when we lived in Arizona, I tried my first truly natural soaps. They smelled amazing without triggering headaches, felt beautiful on my skin, and for the first time, the eczema on my fingertips started to calm down. I loved everything about those bars—except one big thing: they disappeared in the shower way too fast, and they weren’t cheap.

That frustration turned into a challenge. My husband bought me a soapmaking book, and about eight years ago in Arizona, I started making soap for our family. Batch after batch, I fell in love with the process and the possibilities.

From physics to soap art

Coming from a background in physics, I’ve always loved a good challenge. Making a functional bar of soap is one thing. Creating art with soap—balancing oils, color, design, and performance—is a whole new world, and it instantly hooked me.

Formulating soaps lets me combine science and creativity every single day. I’m constantly asking: How can this bar last longer? Feel creamier? Be gentler on irritated skin? Look beautiful on your sink without sacrificing performance? That problem-solving mindset is at the heart of Azady Soap.

The meaning behind the name Azady

The name Azady comes from my Kurdish roots. My mother is Iraqi, a physicist like me, and she is half Kurdish and half Arabic. Azady means “freedom,” and it is a word I carry not only as a brand name, but as a personal value.

For me, freedom is for everyone—especially those who are oppressed, unheard, or living in unjust situations. I think about that often, and it shapes how I move through the world, not just how I make soap. The name Azady is a quiet reminder of that commitment.

In soap, that idea of freedom becomes something very tangible:

  • Freedom for your skin from harsh, unnecessary chemicals
  • Freedom for your senses to enjoy scent without headaches or overwhelm
  • Freedom from the irritation that so many of us have come to accept as “normal” in our daily products

Azady Soap is my way of offering a small kind of freedom in your everyday routine—a bar that respects your skin, honors your wellbeing, and reflects a deeper belief in dignity and care for all.

What makes Azady Soap different

Every bar starts with carefully chosen skin loving oils and butters, balanced to create a stable, long-lasting bar with a creamy lather and a gentle cleanse. I formulate with sensitive, real-life skin in mind—like my own eczema-prone fingertips—so comfort and mildness are always a priority.

I focus on:

  • Thoughtful ingredients that support the skin instead of stripping it
  • Bars that last, so your investment doesn’t melt away in the shower
  • Designs and scents that feel like a small piece of art in your daily routine

Made for everyday, skin-first routines

Azady Soap is made for people who want:

  • A gentler, more enjoyable everyday cleanse
  • Naturally inspired scents that don’t overwhelm
  • Artisan bars that look beautiful but are made to be used, not just admired

My goal is simple: to create bars that your skin loves, your eyes enjoy, and your shower shelf can’t wait to show off.
